Calrec X2 Console Makes IBC Debut Live, On-Air With Radio IBC

Calrec Audio today announced that IBC’s official radio station, Radio IBC 105.6 FM, has selected a 12-fader Calrec X2 digital radio console to provide 10 hours of daily live-to-air content for the duration of this year’s show.

Transmitting from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Radio IBC 105.6 FM will operate from a studio located at the heart of the RAI Centre, with an additional booth next door to IBC TV News in the Park Suite, opposite the main entrance to Hall 8. Radio IBC will distribute 10,000 free, pre-tuned personal FM receivers to IBC visitors and exhibitors. Internet users will be able to tune in online at www.radioibc.com, while the My Radio IBC personalized RSS feed completes the listening options. Radio IBC will also stream live video to the Park Suite booth from a Webcam based in the studio.

“We needed a console that was easy to drive, easy to set up, and above all else, extremely reliable,” said Chas Rowden of Radio IBC. “The X2 is ideally suited to our needs. Only essential controls are present as part of the desk’s hardware, making it extremely user-friendly, while the central screen provides access to far more advanced functions, which is useful for setups.”

The X2 is an all-digital self-op radio or Grams console designed for on-air operation, and it is the first radio desk to be built on Calrec’s award-winning Bluefin High Density Signal Processing (HDSP) technology. X2 has been chosen by the BBC for the next phase of the BBC English Regions radio refurbishment program.

At IBC2007 stand 8.574, Calrec will also showcase the Omega with Bluefin console. Making its IBC debut, the Omega features 160 channel-processing paths packaged as 48 stereo plus 64 mono channels, allowing up to 24 full 5.1 surround channels. The console features 8 x 5.1 surround, stereo or mono audio groups, 20 auxiliary outputs (which can be 20 mono or 10 stereo), and 48 outputs for multitrack or general-purpose feeds.

In addition, Calrec will display a new range of fixed-format remote audio I/O boxes. Ranging in size from 2 U to 4 U, the new I/O boxes complement the company’s existing modular remote I/O box, and all include built-in power-supply redundancy with dual IEC power connections.
