The DVB Audio Encoder System DAE combines one or several MPEG audio encoders with a transport stream multiplexer to create a DVB-compliant multiplex. This system is used by all German public radio stations associated in the ARD to create sub-multiplexes for the ARD DVB-S radio transponder, launched in 2005, making all 63 ARD radio services available on DVB-S.

With its different output modules, DAE is able to send the created transport stream via the most commonly used network types:

ASI output module for video networks or direct connection to modulators

E1 output module for E1 networks

Ethernet output module for IP networks (eg internet).

Encoding algorithms include MPEG1 Layer 2, MPEG4 AAC LC and MPEG4 HE-AAC.

The professional DVB-S audio receiver DAR will provide analogue and digital audio (MPEG1 Layer 2 (decoded), AC-3 (pass-trough))as well as data for feeding and monitoring purposes.
