The unit delivers and shows broadcast-quality digital video and Internet content. Offering cross-platform capability allows system integrators and operators to use both simple HTML and JavaScript in developing applications. ASE Technologies (USA), Inc. is a leader in the design of consumer and commercial digital set-top boxes for cable, satellite, and wireless delivery systems. The 2netFX Java-based player software allows users of the set-top box to view DVD-quality MPEG- 2 broadcasts from multiple servers, interactively select stations, adjust video window location and size, and play archived videos from multiple servers. Its advanced program guide is tightly coupled with the sophisticated media scheduling features in 2netFX's ThunderCast Advanced Media Server software, and allows users to interactively subscribe to scheduled programs, view programs in progress, record programs to disk for later viewing or selected videos to view on demand (VOD). 2netFX Server and Player software is optimized for satellite, LAN/WAN, ATM, fiber, and next generation Internets, and fully supports industry standards such as IP, UDP, RTP, RSVP and others. "Our ASE-4500 IPTV set-top box uses the latest in broadband multicast technology to provide real-time decoding of IP encapsulated MPEG2 transport streams," said Roger Chang, president and CEO of ASE Technologies (USA), Inc. The ASE-4500 IPTV delivers the functionality that leading-edge service providers demand. At its core is a Java Virtual Machine, running on a high-performance processor. It is DVB compliant and includes a wide range of feature sets, including Internet browser, e-mail client, and provisions for a hard disk drive for personal video-recorder features. It supports RTSP, RTP, and UDP Internet protocols for delivery of broadcast IPTV, NVOD, and VOD services.
