Avid Establishes Broadcast Systems Center in Madison, Wisconsin

-- Boulder, Colorado Operations to be Consolidated with Madison and Tewksbury, Massachusetts --

Tewksbury, MA – (August 2, 2001) –Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) today announced plans to establish its Madison, Wisconsin facility as the new Avid Broadcast Systems Center dedicated to the integration and support of newsroom automation and editing with Avid’s video server products. As a result of this move, the AirSPACE™, VideoSPACE™, and HyperSPACE™ video server products, currently being developed in Boulder, will be consolidated with Avid’s Madison and Tewksbury facilities by the end of the year. The majority of Avid’s video server manufacturing was previously relocated to the Tewksbury facility where state-of-the-art production and quality control processes are in place. The consolidation allows the Madison development and support teams to produce a higher level of workflow integration with the video server products within the Avid broadcast solution. This ultimately enables Avid to improve the efficiency of its assets and facilities, while strengthening its commitment to the broadcast marketplace.

Presently, Avid’s Madison operation develops and supports the iNEWS™ newsroom computer system, the Media Browse™ video browse and shot-list system, and the iNEWS ControlAir™ production device automation system. One of the first projects of the new center will be to integrate the upcoming version of the AirSPACE video server, which includes significant features for “transfer while recording” and “play while transferring” in and out of Avid Unity™ for News, a shared storage workgroup solution.

“The consolidation will give our Madison team a unique ability to move solutions forward quickly, since much of their development work is centered on video server control and its integration with newsroom automation and news editing,” said Joe Bentivegna, vice president and general manager of Avid Media Solutions. Bentivegna also emphasized that the support personnel for the video server products will become part of the Avid Broadcast Customer Support team directed out of Madison, which will facilitate cross-training throughout the support organization.

“By making Madison our Broadcast Systems Center, we have taken strategic action to continue our concentrated commitment to broadcasters by optimizing the integration of our broadcast products and unifying support,” added Bentivegna.
