iNEWS Technology Helps WCBSam Overcome Unexpected Glitches for a Flawless Premier Broadcast

-- 75% of CBS owned and operated stations now leveraging proven iNEWS technology --

MADISON, Wis., November 7, 2000 - iNEWS, the world's leading provider of convergence newscasting solutions for television networks, local television stations, and webcast networks, today announced the successful deployment of their Newsroom Computer System (NRCS) at WCBSam, CBS Networks' new New York City digital facility. Various unforeseen obstacles, including the installation of 3rd-party equipment, employee strikes and a major religious holiday, had inundated the station, postponing the on-air date repeatedly. However, the proven iNEWS technology allowed for seamless integration of supporting broadcast technology, easing the production process and enabling a successful deployment.

A loyal customer of iNEWS, WCBSam's familiarity with the company's founding technologies (BASYS and Avid) dates back to the station's roots, resulting in minimal training on the NRCS. However, a series of unforeseen extenuating circumstances caused major delays in the broadcast's launch. A strike by the telephone company, Verizon, resulted in a temporary suspension in the installation of telephone lines and a major religious event also halted the installation process as workers on both ends took time off to observe the holiday.

Internally, the recent name change to WCBSam, which was enacted to reflect the separation of WCBSam from WCBSfm news, created issues that required troubleshooting when all toolbars stopped functioning. The situation was resolved with the help of the user-friendly iNEWS interface.

"While iNEWS embarks on developing its webcasting solutions, we are continuing to support traditional radio and television broadcasters such as WCBSam for improvement upon existing platforms," said Matt Danilowicz, CEO and president of iNEWS.

The iNEWS Newsroom Computer System (NRCS) is the heart of the newsroom, and is relied upon for all production, communication and administration. Built on a legacy of over 20 years broadcast experience, and now enhanced with new features, the NRCS provides a complete working environment for both broadcast and Internet journalists. The NRCS is part of a family of iNEWS products, which includes Media Browse 2000 and the Broadcast Control Systems (BCS). Working in concert, these systems provide a complete integrated newsroom solution for broadcasters and media content providers who are seeking to deploy next-generation, iNewscasting practices.
